Three healthy smoothie recipes that will leave you energised!

Fresh fruit juice + creativity & health consciousness = smoothies

In today’s busy world, smoothies have become extremely popular because they are quick and easy to make, and a healthy snack or breakfast, if made with natural ingredients and no added sugar.

I remember like yesterday, when I used to go shopping with my Mom in Lima and stopped for a glass of delicious fruit juice. It was a simple mix of blended fresh fruit and water. However, there was a more succulent version called “especial,” which had an egg, milk and ‘algarrobina;’ a syrup made from Black Carob tree, very popular in Peruvian cuisine. The ‘especial’ was even more consistent and flavourful. A delicious, energizing, and healthy beverage that kept us going until lunch or dinner.

Nowadays, creativity and health consciousness have developed the good old fruit juice into what we call smoothies, by adding super foods, vegetables, yogurt, and other ingredients that add colour, flavour and health benefits to the so cherished drink.

Go ahead and get creative! Add superfoods such as chia seeds, flaxseed, cacao powder, matcha powder, desiccated coconut, to enjoy more health benefits, texture and flavour. Here are three of my favourite smoothie recipes:

1 Handful of blueberries

1 tbsp. Desiccated coconut

1 tsp. Chia seeds

1 tsp. Flaxseed

1 cup Non-dairy milk

There are lots of smoothie varieties that you can make. Just add your favourite ingredients to a blender, a liquid that you like such as non-dairy milk (soy, rice, oat, almond, coconut,) coconut water, or just still water, and mix until smooth. Avocados are a popular ingredient, as well as Greek yogurt, kale, spinach, cucumber, and all sorts of fruit. I personally prefer to use fresh fruit rather than frozen, and I love bananas therefore, my three recipes include them. Get creative and make some colourful and delicious smoothies with lots of health benefits!
